As a summary of our research, we identified many different aspects about what it means to be a mother and the different uses/motivations they have for listening to music. These themes helped us develop our concept scenarios, which we validated with moms, and then redefined our focus for our final concept.

What it Means to be a Mom

• Children are first priority: Moms want to remain aware of surroundings to they can protect their children
• Feeling young: Maintaining youth helps moms feel like they are better able to care for their children
• Children are an extension of self: Misbehaving children are a reflection of their mothers
• Moms don't have time: Everyone is lacking time, but moms really don't have any time
• Mothers may be concerned about technology and some are conscious of cost of devices

Why Moms use Music

• Escape/Distraction: While walking the dog, exercising, doing dishes
• Entertainment: Dancing with the kids, or for fun
• Ambient Music: Wanting to talk to the kids while in the car
• Maintaining and strengthening bonds: Music as a reminder of past events and a way to connect with family members
